CARLTON D. WATSON is an Associate Attorney at Vandeveer Garzia. He focuses his practice on defense litigation in the areas of first-party and third-party automotive claims, premises liability, fire loss and general negligence.
Carlton graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a BBA in 2007; from Wayne State University with an MBA in 2009; and from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law with a JD in 2013.
While in law school, Carlton received an American Jurisprudence Award in Applied Legal Theory and Analysis (Legal Writing). He was also a senior member of the Moot Court Board of Advocates. As a senior member, he received several local and national competition awards. In addition, Carlton completed several legal clerkships, including one with the Honorable Patrick J. Duggan in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
Before joining the firm, Carlton worked as a Judicial Staff Attorney for the Honorable Leslie Kim Smith in the Wayne County Circuit Court. Since joining the firm, Carlton has succeeded in trial, obtained a no cause verdict in favor of an insured, and has also succeeded in the Michigan Court of Appeals and the Michigan Supreme Court.
Carlton has been admitted to the Michigan Bar since November 2013. He is also an ABA-certified mediator in the State of Michigan and was recently elected to the Board of Directors of the D. Augustus Straker Bar Association as its Treasurer.
