DANIEL R. SIEFER is of-counsel with Vandeveer Garzia, P.C. and focuses his practice on defense matters involving Michigan No-Fault law, including first and third-party automobile disputes.

Mr. Siefer has had extensive trial experience in both state and federal courts, trying more than 25 cases to a jury verdict, ranging from murder, robbery, and drug conspiracy to first-party and third-party automobile No-Fault cases. Dan has also appeared before the Michigan Court of Appeals and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati. He is licensed to practice in the United States Supreme Court.

Dan graduated from George Washington University in 1965 receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Government, and majoring in International Affairs. He graduated from the Detroit College of Law in 1969 and became a member of the Michigan State Bar in September 1969. During law school he received an American Jurisprudence award for excellence in the study of Labor Law.

Prior to joining Vandeveer Garzia, Dan had been with the Auto Club Insurance Association house counsel from 1981 through 2014, serving as an Executive Attorney. He supervised both in-house and outside litigation along with providing legal opinions for claims, underwriting and regarding policy forms.

Dan is a member of local and state bar associations including the Michigan Defense Trial Counsel and the Association of Defense Trial Counsel.

He has been a contributor to “Michigan No-Fault Automobile Cases: Law and Practice” published by the Institute of Continuing Legal Education for the past 10 years. He has been a lecturer for the Michigan Institute for Continuing Legal Education in the area of No-Fault law since 1987. He has also been a guest lecturer at Wayne State University Law School and the Michigan Association for Justice. He is co-author of two Law Review articles; Wayne Law Review; “Survey of Insurance Law 1986” by Frederick M. Baker, Jr. and Daniel R. Siefer, and University of Detroit Mercy Law Review, 2010, “Let’s Get Serious; a View of the Serious Impairment Threshold from a Defense Perspective,” by Daniel R. Siefer and Mary T. Nemeth.

Dan has been involved in numerous Bar Association activities and was a State Bar Representative in 1985-1986 and Detroit Bar Association Chairperson of the Year in 1981-1982. He has received the “AV” rating, the highest rating recognized by Martindale Hubbell peer review rating system.
